If you are new to Raid: Shadow Legends then it can be daunting to be confronted with the different elements of the game to start with.

We put together this New Player Introduction Guide to help you out with getting started in Raid: Shadow Legends and get your account rolling in the right direction.

Get started the right way

Raid Shadow legends is a fantastic game for the casual player who is looking to kill some time on their mobile device, or for the more hardcore player who is looking to try and build an epic team to take on the most difficult content in the game.

Raid Shadow Legends is a turn based RPG game originally designed for mobile, however, after the popularity for the game grew it was expanded to have a client available on PC and Mac.

Whilst many people are drawn in to Raid: Shadow Legends by it’s impressive graphics initially, most players stay because of the engaging and challenging game play.

Raid: Shadow Legends also has one of the most supportive and pleasant online communities in the online gaming world.

Why should you play Raid Shadow Legends?

Raid Shadow Legends is an extremely tactical turn based RPG game that will challenge you to build teams that are able to take on challenging bosses and even pit your champions against other players in the arena.

Many people have seen the amount of advertising that the developer (Plarium) push out on social channels such as Twitch and YouTube. A a result of this Raid: Shadow Legends has become almost a meme in certain situations that can discourage people from getting into the grass roots of the game.

How to get the best start in the game?

When you start out on the game you get to select one of the 4 starter champions (Kael, Galek, Athel and Elhain)to help you on your journey.

While all 4 of these champions are viable in certain areas of the game, like many champions in the game they are not created equal.

The best overall champion to start with is Kael. Kael is the ranged mage type champion that offers excellent versatility throughout the early game but also offers a kit diverse enough to carry you through later dungeons in Raid: Shadow Legends.

Why is Kael the best choice for your 1st champion?

Kael is the best choice for your first champion because of how diverse his abilities are depending on how you build him and the equipment sets that you use for him in the game. Kael has 2 abilities that poison your opponent with ticking damage over time on the enemy champion. Poison is one of the most effective ways to get damage into clan boss and the later stages of dungeons where you will farm gear for your champions.

Kael also has an extremely potent AOE ability that will nuke down entire waves for you and 1 shot entire arena teams when pared with an AOE decrease defence champion.

Who is the 2nd best option?

If you are completely opposed to picking Kael as your starter champion you can opt for one of the other champions without hindering your progress in the game too much.

Athel is most likely the 2nd best option for starting players. Like Kael, Athel offers an extremely powerful AOE nuke along with a multi-hit base attack that can devastate the opposing champions.

No matter what champion you pick when you start out the most important thing is that you focus on getting your first 6 star champion. By getting a rank 6 champion you will open up possibilities to move through the game more effectively and increase the speed that you are able to get more 6 star champions in the future.

*EXTREMELY HELPFUL* Thank you so, so much for doing this. Just to hear that I need to focus on level 60 6 star champions helps – I have just been kind of leveling everyone up equally. Many other good points you made – thanks again.

Hell hades, I am genuinely curious if Kael is that much stronger than Athel in the current state of raid. Kael’s A3 has a chance of landing 4 x 5% poisons (which I don’t argue is very strong), but it is RnG based and you often only get 1 or 2 on a 4 turn cooldown. I feel like Athel’s 3hit a1, with giant slayer and self-sustained increase attack would do just as much damage? she also provides a fairly consistent weaken, which is a much harder debuff to get access to in early game compared to poison. I am about to start a new FTP with the Rector drath reward code and feel like her support, with athel’s skills, warmaiden defense down and outlaw monk for poisons will get me farther in clan boss faster. the thing I am wondering is if the team will be able to clear dragon 13, or is this the place that makes kael the #1? what do you think?

Your website is great! A play question, though. I’m a new F2P player in Raid. I’ve been following your new F2P progress, but how/where do you get so many 5 and 6 level artifacts? I’m only getting 1, 2, 3, and an occasional 4…
